Jellycat was founded in London in 1999 by brothers Thomas and William Gatacre, who set out to create soft toys that were genuinely different from anything else on the market. The name, famously, was invented by Thomas's then seven-year-old son, who combined "jelly" and "cat" during a family brainstorming session. It stuck, perfectly capturing the playful, whimsical spirit of what the brand would become. Over 25 years later, Jellycat is one of the most beloved soft toy brands in the world, sold in 77 countries and adored by babies, children and adults alike.
What makes Jellycat so special is a combination of things. The fabrics are genuinely, noticeably softer than anything else you will hold. The characters are original, imaginative and full of personality. New designs are introduced throughout a year, and retired designs become sought-after collectibles. Always check the sewn-in care label on your individual Jellycat first as care instructions vary by product. Most can be surface washed with mild soap and cool water, while some are suitable for a gentle machine wash. Never tumble dry, iron or dry clean, and always allow to air dry naturally.
